It was reported by French website (www. challenges.fr) on August 6 that Eric Legros, the president of Carrefour China, said on the same day that presently the operation of the group in Chinese market was in a good condition, and they planed to open 20 new Supermarkets in China each year.

According to the report, in April, due to the protest of Beijing Olympics, the torch relay was interfered in Paris, and Chinese consumers launched a boycott to Carrefour supermarkets. Eric Legros said that presently the operation of Carrefour in China had “no problem” and he himself also took part in the Olympic torch relay in Beijing.

He said that China had priority to be the key developing area of the group, and the developing plan that the Group intended to open 20 new supermarkets in China every year had never happened in other countries of the world.

As to the report that Beijing had frozen the approval of French-funded enterprises, he stated that he never heard of this. However, he stressed that Carrefour just opened a new one supermarket in Beijing last month.
It was reported that so far Carrefour entered Chinese market for more than 10 years, opening 122 supermarkets and 280 low-cost discount stores, with the number of daily Chinese customers of 20m.
